It was a German that invented the light bulb
We once more refer to a message on the new Deutsche Post issue program which was recently posted on this webpage.
Through further exploration of the 2004 issues we came across a stamp, dedicated to the 150th birthday of the invention of the light bulb. The name Edison, however, is nowhere to be found back. And correctly so, because this invention is not attributed to Thomas Alva, but to Heinrich Göbel, a German who in 1854 managed to build a functioning light bulb. In that way, he beat a number of other pioneers, like Jobard, a Belgian, the American James W. Starr and the Englishman Martyn John Roberts. Edison didn't come up with the light bulb until 1870 but he was the first to make it a commercial success.
