German water aid stamp is a hit
Extra charge stamps are not very popular in Germany. Germans, and particularly the philatelists among them, think that one should not use stamps for charity.
But, whith the extra charge stamp issued on August 30, things are entirely different. That stamp – with an extra charge from which the victims of the recent flood disaster – was an immediate hit! Lots of offices did not have a stamp left at the end of the first day that they were available. Deutsche Post decided to wait a little while and then took the following, obvious solution: an additional printing of 10 000 000 stamps. The stamp will never get really rare, but that’s the situation philatelists will have to accept, on behalf of charity.
