Very old catalogue auctioned
Only 22 years after the publication of the first stamp ever, the Penny Black, a catalogue was issued which had to help collectors to find their way through the number of issues, which was, at that time, still very modest.
The publication involved, The Stamp Collectors Guide by Frederick W. Booty from Brighton, England, was published in August 1862. The catalogue, which contains about 200 pictures of stamps and four pages with text on them, has, as we know it tody, the first illustrated publication. On September 6, this rare valuable will be auctioned at Cavendish Philatelic Auctions. The auctioneer estimates the valuable to be sold at about 500 English pounds.
The auction’s catalogue can be consulted online on the Cavendish webpage: www.cavndish-auction.com
