Stamp magazines
Every year, the weekly magazine Linn’s Stamp News makes an inventory of the circulations of the 5 largest stamp magazines in the US. For the first time in five years, they all happen to be loss-making. Here are their circulations: Linn’s Stamp News (55 449), Scott Stamp Monthly (28 465), American Phimatelist (50 514), Stamp Collector (15 143), Mekeel’s & Stamps (6 034) or a total of 155 605.
The possible causes for the decrease of the circulations are summed up in a thorough analysis. The fact that an increasing number of newspaper kiosks coses down, that the publicity volume is shrinking and that the postage costs have risen, have forced stamps mags to raise their prices, causing a part of their readers (some 2.5 to 8.6 %) to pull out. “Times are tough” is the conclusion of Linn’s, both in their magazine and on their webpage.
