The Luxemburg precancels
A complete and closed collection area of 153 stamps!
As opposed to Canada and the United States, where thousands and hundred thousands of prestamped stamps respectively appeared and appear, Luxemburg remains a closed area with only 153 different prestamped stamps .
In 1900, Luxemburg issued as a first prestamped 1 centime grey. As a kind of testcase actually. The stamp was in circulation for one month only. As in the years before, it was possible to trade in unused prestamped stamps for specimens of the next year, which partly explains the rarity of certain editions.
The 1900 1 centime test was satisfying and that is why, in 1901, there was a new issue of prestamped stamps, even with a series of five values, from 1 to 10 centime. Most 1 and 2 cent stamps are very common, the other values, however, are difficult to very rarely to be found.
It is presumed that, of the 1900 one centime stamp, only some dozens of copies have been preserved. In other words, it is one of the most difficult stamps of Luxmeburg!
The most 1900 copies that are being traded are 1 centime stamps that have a 1908 prestamping, of which the 8 was distorted to a 0. So, ba cautious when you buy such stamps.
